About

Backend engineer, systems-minded, occasionally waist-deep in a river.

Director of Engineering at Zola, based in Ridgefield, CT.

I'm Adam — a backend engineer who ended up leading engineers, without ever really putting the keyboard down. I've been at Zola since 2017, which is long enough to have written a fair amount of what I now help maintain.

Java is my native tongue, but I'm a systems generalist first: I care more about the shape of a problem — consistency, idempotency, backpressure — than about any one language. The best compliment I can give a service is that nobody thinks about it.

Outside of work I'm on a river when I can be and re-reading Tolkien when I can't. This site is where I park small apps I build for fun — the kind of thing that's more interesting to make than to explain.
